Lancaster girl hopes for great skate at nationals (excerpt)

In the Buffalo News, Sports Section/December 16th, 2009, from an article on Jordan Bauth, Suzanne Bauth's daughter.
Suzanne Bauth is an account executive at Ad Stuff Promotional Products.
In a way, it's been like waiting for an early Christmas morning. It was back in October when 12-year-old Jordan Bauth won the North Atlantic Regional Figure Skating title. Since then, Bauth has eagerly been anticipating the Junior National Figure Skating Championships, which begin Wednesday in Strongville, Ohio.
"It's certainly exciting but it feels like forever since regionals," said Bauth, a student at Lancaster
Middle School. "I'm just really excited and can't wait to go."
The goal is simple for Bauth, who competes in the intermediate division: She wants to skate the
best she can.
That's how she approached the regional competition, and that turned out stunningly well for her.
"I was just really shocked at how well I skated," she said. "Then I found out I was first and I just couldn't believe it. Then in finals my goal was really just to skate as best as I could and I did and then I was really surprised at how I ended up. There wasn't really any pressure, I just wanted to skate the best that I could."
For Bauth, skating is part of the family business. She learned from her mother, Suzanne, who started skating herself at age 12 and traveled with professional ice shows from 1982 to '85. Back home and raising a family, Suzanne started to teach skating and Jordan would tag along to the rink. By age 4, Jordan wanted to try the sport herself.
"She would come when I was working at the rink and she would sit in the penalty box, bundled in her snowsuit," Suzanne said. "She would color and watch the other kids skate and she kept wanting to do it. My husband said to just let her try it. She'll probably fall once and not want to do it again. She started and
kept falling but she loved it. She never wanted to get off the ice."
The rink is still one of Bauth's favorite places. Ask her to name the coldest rink in which she's skated and she can't answer the question. The rink is the rink. It's the place she would most like to be.
